A CAPTIVATING EXHIBITION OF HELICOPTERS
The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power will be celebrating the amazing world of Helicopter Aircraft.
In the mid 1500s, Leonardo Da Vinci made drawings of a flying machine that some say inspired the modern day helicopter. 450 years later the very first piloted helicopter was invented by the Frenchman, Paul Cornu in 1907, when he performed histories first ever vertical flight reaching an altitude of 1.5 metres with a machine weighing more than 200kilos.
Since then helicopters have transformed the world we live in saving lives, protecting citizens and contributing to economic development. They have allowed the development of oil fields more than 200 miles offshore, recovered returned astronauts from the sea, flown to the South Pole and to the top of Everest.
There are more than 1500 private and corporate helicopters flying in the UK. These range from the 2 and 4 seater piston-engines Robinson to the EC155, Eurocopter's VVIP helicopter.
At the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power spectators will be able to see classic and modern aircraft including the eponymous MASH bubble cabin helicopter, the military Gazelle, the meccano-tailed Alouette, the very first British Army helicopter, the Skeeter made from canvas and wood and other vintage helicopters from the armys Historical Flight Wing.
Private, corporate and military helicopters will be flying in over the weekend and we hope that, depending on commitments, the Air Ambulance and Police helicopters will join the spectacle.
There will be a display by Eurocopter, the worlds largest helicopter manufacture, of some of their best selling aircrafts.
